It was a well-kept secret until a German company wanted to construct a five star hotel on the sandbar called Iztuzu. That beautiful beach was, and still is a place where loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) lay their eggs. Thanks to environmentalists, Iztuzu is still wild, and turtles still come back there every year to lay their eggs. The town nearby, Dalyan became the major tourism spot in the area for excursions to Iztuzu and also the ancient site Kaunos on the other side of the canal.

It is the most convenient place to be based in whatever you want to do. You can visit some of the most important Lycian sites such as Tlos, Xanthos, Patara, Letoon, you can walks bits and pieces of the Lycian Way, you can party all night at the bars in Oludeniz, you can visit the ghost town of Kayakoy, you can admire the magnificent landscape, you can sail from one pristine bay to the other enjoying the amazing crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Fethiye town centre is not that attractive to stay, but environs offer a lot.
