Cappadocia is the “land of beautiful horses”, it is the geographical region in Central Anatolia, made famous thanks to its eerie landscape formed by once active volcanoes. Lava they poured filled in the valley, and within the course of time, due to natural causes such as flood, wind and abrupt temperature changes, that layer of lava got eroded. One of the best ways to see the amazing landscape is hot-air balloons.
As it is easy to carve tufa, early Christians took shelter in the area, and built their churches in tufa layer, and Cappadocia became the centre of monastic movement in early times. According to archaeologists and researchers, there are more than 1000 rock-cut churches in the region. Goreme Open Air Museum is the place to see the most beautiful examples of rock-cut churches. Inside the churches, you can see amazing frescoes depicting scenes from Christianity.

The region is also famous for underground cities dating back to Bronze Age. Those underground cities must have been used by early Christians when they were running away from persecutors. Kaymakli and Derinkuyu are two important underground cities visited by tourists every year.
All those rock-cut tufa layers and caves are home to local people. In Cappadocia, you can stay at a cave hotel, drink at a cave bar, and as they say, feel like cavemen!
Cappadocia is famous for many things: wine, apricots, rock-cut churches, hiking among fairy chimneys, underground cities. Apart from that, to witness village life, it is the best place. People still use soil from the banks of Halys River to make pottery, and ladies still weave rugs.
In Cappadocia, we make an itinerary depending on how long you want to stay and what you want to see. Uchisar Fortress, Goreme Open Air Museum, Cavusin, Urgup, Goreme, Derinkuyu or Kaymakli Underground City, Ihlara Peristrema are some suggestions.
