The word Hippodrome is the combination of two Greek words: hippo ¬– dromos. Hippo means horse, and dromos means track. Hippodrome was the place ancient people had their chariot races. The Hippodrome in Istanbul dates back to the 2nd century AD, and was constructed by the Roman emperor, Septimus Severus.
